Mistral: the closing event

EXSCALATE4COV: AIFA launches a clinical trial for coronavirus treatment in Italy
The Italian pharmaceutical regulatory agency, AIFA, has greenlighted a clinical trial for the use of Raloxifene in patients with mild symptoms caused by the coronavirus. In June 2020 Exscalate4CoV using European supercomputing had announced that the registered generic drug used to treat osteoporosis could be an effective treatment for coronavirus.

TREX: the European Center of Excellence in exascale computing
On October 1st, the European Center of Excellence in exascale computing “TREX - Targeting Real chemical accuracy at the EXascale”, has officially started its activities. TREX Center of Excellence is a consortium of 12 partners, funded under the Horizon 2020 program. Cineca is part of this consortium and will contribute with scientific expertise and HPC facilities.

Announcement of the award for the procurement of the Leonardo supercomputer
The European supercomputer Leonardo, managed by Cineca that will be installed at the end of 2021 in the new data center located in Bologna Tecnopolo, will be based on Atos BullSequana XH2000 technology, and feature nearly 14,000 next generation NVIDIA Ampere architecture-based GPUs and NVIDIA Mellanox HDR InfiniBand. It will deliver 10 exaflops of FP16 AI performance.

APPROVED THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE ITALIAMETEO AGENCY
On October 5th, the Council of Ministers, on the proposal of the President Giuseppe Conte and the Minister of University and Research Gaetano Manfredi, approved the rules for the establishment of the National Agency for Meteorology and Climatology called "ItaliaMeteo" and measures aimed at facilitating the coordination of the management of meteorology and climatology.

MoU “CINI-ABD-CLAIRE" per HPC-AI-COVID
ABD (Associazione Big Data), CINI (Italian National Inter-University Consortium for Informatics) and CLAIRE (Confederation of Laboratories for Artificial Intelligence Research in Europe) signed memorandums of understanding (MoU). This will enable the CLAIRE and CINI communities to develop their research using supercomputers provided by the Members of the ABD (CINECA, CMCC, ENEA, INFN).
